Work-life balance
Balancing between personal & professional life

Not all successful professionals lead a happy personal life. Success in career might or might not reflect in your personal life as well. Did you ever thought about it…why a professionally strong individual not able to demonstrate the same strength at a personal level?

Here are a few things if taken care of can help you maintain a balance in your life.

Realize your responsibilities

The very first step is to identify and realize your responsibilities - be it towards your job, your family, your children, your friends or even the society you live in. Understanding your responsibilities will give you a heads up as to what and who all needs your attention on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

Prioritize your work

Once you are aware of your responsibilities and tasks, it becomes vital to prioritize them in the sequence of utmost importance. Few things, though even being a part of your to-do-list, do not deserve to be given much importance. They can wait for an apt time when all other critical things have been taken care of.

Don’t waste your time

Remember, your time is important. You have fixed 24 hours in a day and your efficiency to spend it wisely will decide your level of satisfaction at the end of the day. The job is something you cannot afford to ignore, as for most of us our house runs on it; family again cannot be ignored, as our existence is because of our family; our own health cannot be ignored, if we do so, we might have to regret heavily for that. And then there are various other stuffs that keep on popping up unknowingly without any prior intimation. In such situation, it is critical that we do not waste our time doing unnecessary things or things which can probably be outsourced. Equally important is to avoid spending time with those who do not care for us or for whom we are not important.

Invest in relationships

Investment in finances will give you returns that are quantifiable, but investing in relationships will give you returns that will bring in internal satisfaction. It won’t just bring a smile on your face but for all your care for. The feeling of content that will come as a return on this investment will be the driving force for the rest of the activities you are responsible for.

Don’t undervalue your importance

You might see many people so much engrossed in their work and busy earning for the family that they fail to realize their importance as an “individual” in the family. They ignore the fact that their family needs them as much as they need money for the survival. This tends to happen more with men, who feel that their responsibility towards family is over once they have earned enough for them. But they fail to understand or rather they ignore the fact that their family and kids want their company and presence in the events of life, and not just their money.

Respect yourself

All said and done, you are the most important person and you need to value and respect yourself. Do not overlook the needs of your body. It might be able to sustain for some time without care, but survival in long term will be affected. Ensure that you do treat yourself fair, and take care of the requirement of your body, your health, your sleep, your time. It’s only when your body is charged, it can deliver the best in every sphere.
